With a bespoke interior, handsome looks, and improved handling and precision, the new 2018 Chrysler 200 has what it takes to get to the top. Some of the pros include an easy-to-use interface, a high-quality interior, an available AWD drive system, excellent safety test scores, and a strong V6 engine. Its release date should be expected at the beginning of next year.
Install for you in the new model is a new 90th Anniversary package, a few exterior and interior tweaks, and a rearview camera for the Limited trim model. For starters, the 200 underwent a thorough redesign only last year and will definitely prove to be among the best in the mid-size sedan segment.
A lot of effort has been invested in the new 200. Long gone is the fuddy-duddy persona of the previous model, and its place is now an elegant, smooth and crisp look that allows the vehicle to stand out from the rest of its rival zombies.
Interior wise, Chrysler has invested a lot of soft-to-touch materials, and upscale technologies. For instance, inside you’ll find an easy-to-use 8.4” infotainment system which is undoubtedly one of our favorites.
Performance wise, Chrysler has equipped its base model with a four-cylinder engine that, according to us, is unfortunate. However, we like the 3.6L V6 engine that offers best of the bunch performance and fuel economy ratings.
Despite of the efforts, the 200 still lags behind on certain fronts including an overly firm ride, reduced interior space, less impressive exterior styling, and an underwhelming four-cylinder engine performance.
Available Trims – Chrysler 200
The five-passenger Chrysler 200 is available in a walloping four trims: base LX, Limited, S and the top-of-the-line C model. Both the 200 SRT and Convertible are reviewed separately.
Exterior Review & Interior Changes – 2018 Chrysler 200
Standard equipment available for the base 2018 Chrysler 200 LX model include telescopic-and-tilt steering wheel, automatic headlights, 17” wheels, air-conditioning, keyless entry and ignition, manually height-adjustable front seats, four-speaker premium sound system, USB ports, a 5” touchscreen display, auxiliary audio input, and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity.
Picking the 200 Limited model gets you a rearview camera, a six-speaker sound system, heated exterior mirrors, 18” wheels, a leather wrapped telescopic-and-tilt steering wheel, an eight-way power driver seat, a compass, and as sunroof.
Exclusive for the 2018 Limited model includes an 8.4” touchscreen interface, special floor mats, a sunroof, 90th Edition optional package, and all the contents of the Convenience package.
Up next is the S trim that bundles all the contents of the Limited model plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather/cloth sport front wheels, 18” wheels, foglights, an eight-way power driver seat, upgraded interior trim, satellite and HD radio, paddle shifters, acoustic windshield and front-door glass, a leather wrapped telescopic-and-tilt steering wheel, sport-tuned suspension system, and heated mirrors.
Optional features and technologies available for the Limited and S trims include the contents of the Comfort Group package plus a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, automatic climate control (dual-zone), remote engine start, rear air ducts, and exterior heated mirrors. Optional equipment includes a satellite and HD radio, smartphone app integration, an 8.4” touchscreen interface, and an upgraded instrument panel.
At the helm of the trim lineup is the luxury-themed 200C model. It comes standard with 18” wheels, a six-way power front passenger and driver’s seat, driver memory settings, a 115 V household-styled power outlet, leather upholstery, and an 8.4” touchscreen display.
Engine Specs – 2018 Chrysler 200
A standard 2.4L four-cylinder engine good for 184 hp and 173 pounds of torque is available as the base engine. The 3.6L V6 engine is available as an option for the Limited, S, and C trims and is rated at 295 hp and 262 pounds of torque.
Both the front-wheel-drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission system are standard. The all-wheel-drive system is optional. To sweeten things up, Chrysler featured the Sport mode for the V6-powered trims that provides a slightly heavier steering effort and sharpens up the transmission and engine responses.
During our test drive, the S trim was able to sprint effortlessly to 60 mph in just under 6.2 seconds.
The EPA fuel economy consumption ratings for the whole trim lineup range from a combined rating of 28mpg to 23mpg.
Price & 2018 Chrysler 200 Release Date
At the beginning of next year we should expect to see the new 2018 Chrysler 200 in dealerships. As for the price, expect the sedan to go for sale for an MSRP starting from $21,995.
