The new 2018 Kia Sportage offers excellent value and is fun to drive. Other things that make it a top consideration include a new look, better fuel economy, improved ride and comfort quality, and plenty of interior upgrades. Read on for more updates concerning its release date, engine specs, interior appointments, and price.
2018 Kia Sportage Release Date & Price
Although it is yet to be confirmed by Kia, the new Sportage release date in the USA should be expected sometime the spring of 2018. Pricing also is under wraps for now but credible reports say the new model will probably be headed to dealerships with a price tag of $22,990.
With four generations in its résumé, the Kia Sportage is arguably one of the longest running compact SUV in Kia’s lineup. The exterior design comes with mild changes and now sports a jet fighter design that might cause some debates once it hits our shores. The front end has been redesigned mildly and now features sleek headlights perched high above the hood. The rear end, on the other hand, isn’t as busy as the front fascia and mimics those of small crossovers like BMW, Lincoln, and Ford.
In terms of dimensions, the new model has grown a bit in length and now measures 1.6” longer thereby increasing both passenger and cargo space slightly. Further aback, the cargo volume has also grown in volume and now takes about 31 cu. ft. of stuff. The 2018 Kia Sportage interior sports some high-quality materials and technologies even for the most basic model. Some new features to expect include a wider panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, additional insulation, hands-free streaming audio, Kia’s Uvo 3 package, Wi-Fi connectivity, leather upholstery, a seven-inch touchscreen display, heated front seats, an eight-speaker premium Harman Kardon audio system, and an automatic opening liftgate.
Buyers shopping in this segment have a variety of options to choose from. Those options include Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and the Mazda CX-5. Some of Honda’s strengths include an exceptional fuel economy, appealing roster of safety and technologies, more cargo capacity, and exceptional passenger space. Unlike Kia Sportage, only one engine is offered beneath the hood of the CR-V: a 185-horsepower- and 181 lbs. ft. of torque – generating 2.4L four-cylinder engine.

Some of the standard accessories available for the standard Kia Sportage LX model include cruise control, a satellite radio, reclining and folding rear seats, a height-adjustable driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded cloth upholstery, a USB port, a CD player, Bluetooth connectivity, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a rear privacy glass, an auxiliary audio jack, full power accessories, and seventeen-inch alloy wheels. Options available include a rear seat center armrest, a rearview camera, a 4.3” touchscreen audio system, a rear spoiler, and a trip computer.

2018 Kia Sportage Engine Specs
Beneath the hood, the new Sportage comes with a 181-horsepower – generating 2.4L engine. Also available is the turbocharged 2.0L engine that is rated at 241 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque. Although Kia is yet to announce the EPA findings on the Sportage model’s fuel economy ratings, it is highly projected that they will be better than those of the existing model.
