There is no doubt that the Bugatti Chiron has been the pace-setter in terms of raw speed and sheer power. More than a decade ago, Ferdinand Piech gave a small brief to then Veyron engineers: the new Bugatti Chiron, he said, had to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than three seconds, had to have more than 1,000 horsepower, had to achieve a 250 mph, and most importantly, had to be able to offer a comfortable ride to Mrs. Piech on her way to see the Chinese Opera.
Fast-forward to 2018 and the same resounding voice is much clearer and louder than ever before only this time the Veyron replacement is here with us. Ladies and gentlemen here is the new 2018 Bugatti Chiron. Its release date should be expected before this fall as a 2018 year model.
For now, Bugatti has decided to keep the real values under wraps for whatever reasons. What is however known is that the new 2018 Bugatti Chiron 0-60 mph will take just 2.5 seconds and will achieve a top speed of about 236 mph in normal mode. According to sources at Bugatti, the new model has a lowered ride height – expected to reduce downforce and therefore enable it go faster. In fact, 261 mph is the computer-limited-time top speed.
You heard that right, 261 mph at least according to computer simulations. According to Wolfgang Durheimer, the 250 mph mark is on course to be crossed, however, it presents a huge challenge as crossing that speed would out a lot of stress on the vehicle’s components and therefore would be dangerous even for the most professional drivers.
He further argues that the new 2018 Bugatti Chiron will have an easy time breaking the 268 mph and 270.49 mph records set by the Veyron Super Sport and the John Hennessey’s Venom GT respectively.
Although much of the construction architecture used by the Bugatti Chiron 2018 is that of the Veyron, engineers working on the new model say the new model is all-new. This is despite the Chiron sporting the 8.0L W12 engine paired to the seven-speed DCT. Relative to the Veyron, Bugatti says the new model is slightly longer, slightly wider, and seats slightly lower. The curb weight however remains the same.
Performance wise, the new 2018 Bugatti Chiron gets a power output sated at a breath-chocking 1,500 horsepower @6,700 rpm, and about 1,165 pounds-feet of torque @6,700 rpm. This represents a 25% increase in both power and torque over the Veyron. Why more power while it uses the same Veyron Super Sport engine, you ask. Auto engineering 101: the amount of air supplied to the engine compartment has been increased as well. It’s that simple!
2018 Bugatti Chiron Interior & Exterior Redesign
For starters, the design of the 2018 Bugatti Chiron is a seamless combination of high levels of “beauty” and a “beastly” personality. It is a quintessential ultimate sports car that offers a stylistically demanding design, and an ultra-modern physique.
The Bugatti Chiron interior, just like those of its predecessors before it, is a masterpiece. It is a standout from any other hypercar around thanks to the striking balance between luxury and sportiness. Plastics are a cursed lot and not even an inch is available on its interior. The surfaces are plastered with either fine leather, aluminum, of carbon fiber. The result is a premium, modern vehicle, bespoke in every touch.
Exterior wise, if the 2018 Bugatti Chiron Spy photos are anything to go by, the outside design is simply an evolution of the Veyron design regardless of whichever way Bugatti tries to put it. At first blush, you might confuse it for its predecessor as the redesigns are subtle and you might need to look long and hard to notice any dissimilarities.
