The fully redesigned 2018 Audi R8 is expected to make its debut for the upcoming season. As the car has already been showcased at the latest Geneva Auto Show it was fitting for us to devise a review where you will find out the latest specs and the release date for the car. The upcoming model is redesigned version of the famous Audi supercar which is continuing its popularity with this model.
The Audi R8 was released for the first time in 2007 and gave buyers a chance to own a supercar model equipped with a V-10 engine that did not bear the name and the price of a Ferrari nor a Lamborghini car. The model came out very strong and was very much appreciated by the fans with high sales rates and a very welcoming offer. Yet as years passed so did the popularity of this vehicle making the year of 2015 the lowest for its sales. As fans were begging for an update the makers had no choice but to provide one.
As this is the second-generation 2018 Audi R8 model the redesign was expected it be a grand one with many changes and additions made. But the term redesign has been considered here quite loosely and we have not seen too many changes. In fact, the car has incorporated only a few interior and exterior modifications and certain updates. We consider this as too little for the car to make an impact, particularly as the rivals the 2016 Porsche 911 Turbo and the 2016 Aston Martin V12 have a very good offer for them already.
2018 Audi R8 Exterior Photos and Design
The exterior of the 2018 Audi R8 seems more like an update than a redesign. It appears that they did not want to change the style of the car too much and have in turn managed to do too little. This may prove to be something that the fans are not going to take too lightly as it may backfire on them as the changes are too little.
The front end of the car has a new larger hexagonal grille which has a different mesh with bolder lines. The air intakes on the bumper are smaller and have added some vertical slats as well. The headlights also have some mild changes brought to them as they no longer include the curve that they had but have been made to be completely straight. The models in Europe will get laser high-beam headlights that can enhance the safety of the car.
The rear end of the car has some lightly revised taillights as they add new graphics and a new rear grille that have mesh inserts. The tailpipes have a trapezoidal shape as the old circular one has been exchanged for this better looking design The diffuser that was made also manages to span the gap between the revised tailpipes.
This new 2018 Audi R8 is going to be 0.6 inches shorter and 0.4 inches wider and also positioned 0.5 inches lower, which is also going to result in a weight loss for the car. All in all, the changes are really minor and would take a closer inspection to notice them all.
2018 Audi R8 Interior Changes
The changes for the inside of the 2018 Audi R8 are much more apparent on the inside. You will immediately notice a redesigned flat bottom steering wheel which has numerous controls mounted on it. To go with a sporty steering wheel there are also some sports seats which are meant to enhance lateral support for the driver and the passenger. The seats actually come as standard on the V10 Plus trim models but are optional for the standard ones.
The R8 also adds a virtual cockpit which helps the driver get a better perspective and understanding about the things happening around him. It uses a 12.3-inch screen which replaces the instrument gauges and the MMI screen and makes the center console less cluttered. The design of the dashboard and the center stack is also new. The air vents have a different design while the center vents exclude the center stack bezel. Also the HVAC controls are now positioned in a different part making them easier to reach and operate.
There are also going to be some exclusive coverings made for the car. You can opt for the Alcantara-and pearl Nappa leather combination or go full Nappa leather. Other options that you have on your disposal include diamond stitching and clear-coated carbon-fiber trim.
2018 Audi R8 Available Trims
The newest 2018 Audi R8 supercar is going to come out in its two respective trims, the R8 V10 one and also he R8 V10 Plus model, which is a high end version of the base one essentially.
The changes for the powertrain of the 2018 Audi R8 mean that the 4.2-liter V-8 engine is going to be dropped which leaves the V-10 as the only option available for the model. The innovations made here result in a power boost which makes the output of the vehicle at 540 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque for the base version and 610 horses and 413 pound-feet of twist for the Plus trim. Also this time the six-cog manual transmission has been left out of the mix, leaving the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission the only available option for the model. The transmission will deliver the power to all-four wheels and us going to make the acceleration of 0-60 mph at 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 201 mph. The V-10 Plus is going to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and have a top speed of 205 mph. Both engine options have enhanced tier specs making the stats of the car much better than before.

2018 Audi R8 Safety
Besides the standard set of safety equipment, the 2018 Audi R8 receives a few surprising new additions. First of all the model will add new laser high-beam headlight to its exterior which come with a camera system. This system can be used to detect oncoming traffic and help you see what dangers lie ahead of you and warn you at the same time. They can also adjust the beams for ideal distribution as the cars come at you making a lesser possibility of a potential crash happening. This is a special offer which is going to be available for the European models, but unfortunately the US ones are going to be released without them for now as the NHTSA has yet to approve these controls for the US market.
Also the new R8 uses a multimaterial Audi Space Frame which does not only make the car light but also very rigid. It does offer high levels of comfort and has acoustic properties but at the same time it is much safer and stronger for the passengers as it can protect them better if a crash would potentially happen. The Audi R8 has managed to score ample test result at its crash testing.
2018 Audi R8 Release date and price
The latest supercar coming from Audi is going to make an appearance next year, as the schedule of the 2018 Audi R8 says. The model cannot be outputted on the market sooner than that as this year we have been able to see it at the official showcasing in Geneva. The release date is set for the first part of next year with a price of $162,900 for the base version and $189,900 for the V10 Plus model.
Our opinion about the 2018 Audi R8 is in a way split. There are good and bad sides that were equally supported by valid claims. First of all the design and the changes made to the car were not enough to satisfy a regular customer and the car has not been changed that much so as to resemble and modern and contemporary vehicle. The car does look good but we feel that there were a lot of changes that could be made instead of keeping it mostly the same. On the other hand, the lack of a revolutionary design has been bridged by some other additions. This is the most powerful R8 built to date and the new technology used to update the output and also make the vehicle lighter is amazing. The craftsmanship on their side is actually enough to tip the car in good favors with us, that and also the updated technology as well.
